MeMD rebrands as Walmart Health Virtual Care


Walmart has made an “omnichannel” approach to care a central focus, and it aims to ensure that people can access care they want in a way that’s convenient for them.

Telehealth provider MeMD is changing its name to Walmart Health Virtual Care, marking one of the final steps in its integration into the retail giant’s healthcare enterprise.


Walmart announced in May 2021 that it would acquire MeMD, a multispecialty telehealth provider, in an effort to significantly expand its telehealth capabilities. 

The telehealth platform sits within the retailer’s Walmart Health arm, which operates a slate of health clinics as well as other services.


Walmart Health Virtual Care’s services are available nationwide, including urgent care, behavioral health and primary care. 

The telehealth platform will complement its brick-and-mortar clinics to provide end-to-end care, beginning with the latest centers that the company opened in Florida, the company said in an announcement.

The transition to the new branding will feel seamless to MeMD patients, the company said.


“Walmart Health Virtual Care is an important element of Walmart Health, and today’s significant milestone bring us one step closer to delivering on our mission to increase access to quality healthcare and deliver it to our customers when, where and how they want it,” said David Carmouche, M.D., Walmart’s senior vice president of omnichannel care, in a statement.

“I look forward to the Walmart Health Virtual Care team continuing to grow and scale to offer even more care options to organizations and patients nationwide,” Carmouche said.
