Trillions. Estimates for the cost to get to net zero carbon emissions range globally range from $100 trillion to $150 trillion. 

The truth is no one really knows because new technologies could drastically change the equation between now and 2050. 

In the U.S. researchers estimate it will require at least $7.8 trillion in capital investments will be needed to build the infrastructure to electrify the U.S. power grid and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. 

Trillions more would be needed to buy electric vehicles, retrofit buildings and homes and plant farm crops used for alternative fuel sources, among other investments.
